Founded in 1947, Clarion Sintered Metals, Inc. shared its beginnings with the infancy of modern powder metallurgy.  The company was known then as “International Powdered Metallurgy”.   It was privately held and operated successfully for twenty years in that mode.

In 1967 Allegheny Ludlum Steel Company purchased IPM.  The Ridgway facility was operated as a part of that company through 1983.

In 1984 Allegheny Ludlum announced its intent to focus on its core business and a plan to divest itself of the Ridgway powder metal operation.  Employees purchased the operation in that year and changed the name to “Clarion Sintered Metals, Inc.”  The company has operated since 1984 as a privately held producer of powder metal products.
